Alsace is the fifth-smallest of the 27 regions of France in land area, and the smallest in metropolitan France. It is located in the north East part of France. It is producing varietals labelled wines mainly whitetypically from varietals used in German wines (Sylvaner, Gewurtztraminer, Riesling). Along with Germany and Austria it produces some of the best noted in the world dry Rieslings as well as highly aromatic Gewurtztraminer wines. Wines are produced under 3 AOCs : Alsace AOC for White, Red and Rose, Alsace Grand Cru AOC for whotes form certain classified vineyards and Cremant d'Alsace AOC for sparkling wines.
